birthday gifts

my favorite sort of gifts to give to close friends for birthdays:

-spa gift certificate
-dinner at classy restuarant (its a good treat for those who really deserve it, especially if its a good dining experience like Zengo)
-something at a sexshop (this only applies to someone who is confident with her sexuality or has had a long term bf, then its a gift for both of them)
-hand delivered bouquet of flowers
-godiva chocolate covered strawberries
-sexy undies (esp if she's too busy to treat herself or is super frugal)

and if she's not a close friend, than gift certificate to any shop will do.

the worse thing you can give someone is bath stuff. My friends since fifth grade have given me bath stuff from Bath and Body Works. I have a lifetime supply by now. Plus, they are impersonal and uselss. Not everyone uses BB&W.

Ugh!! I saw a dress just like this last weekend for $25 at a vintage store in South Street in Philly. Ahhh... =(

Feed a child for a whole school year. and get a humble reversible bag that makes a statement when you go to the grocers. We seriously have too many plastic bags in our households that we don't even know what to do with them. We save them (being asians and all) for future use, and for most of these plastic bags, that day when they will be reused never comes. They sit, collectively in our pantry and gain new friends on a daily basis.

San Francisco has banned plastic bags in its city this year. Other cities are quickly picking up this green trend.

Be smarter and better. Evolve. Helping out the world not only helps out those directly involved, it also improves  your life and well-being whether you realize it or not.

From the Manufacturer
"19 cents is all it takes to feed a hungry child at school. Last year, the World Food Programme provided meals for 16 million children at school. We need to do more. Three hundred million children around the world are chronically hungry. School feeding acts as a magnet, dramatically increasing enrollment, sometimes by as much as 300%. It also improves performance at school. Children concentrate better on a full stomach. Girls who go to school not only marry later but have half as many children than illiterate women. Furthermore, these children are healthier and better educated. 19 cents a day or 34 dollars a year can transform a child's life and provide the tools for a lifetime of self-reliance. School feeding is a simple but effective way to beat hunger and poverty."

Not only are you feeding a child, you are helping to encourage them to go to school. That's the priceless gift of education. Education increases the value of a person and a community, and then a city, and then a state... Need I go on?

I'll only consider you as a real friend after you've purchase a bag.
